Divorce Law in Michigan is Changing.
March 5th, 2019
Recently there have been some big changes to Michigan divorce law that will affect the entire structure of how people get divorced. During the following podcast I will explain what the two changes mean for people getting a divorce.
So what are the two key changes?
Change number 1 – An end to complicated legal paperwork, deadlines and processes.
Michigan has always required that one spouse file a complaint for divorce and serve it on the other spouse in order to get a divorce moving forward. This involved complicated legal paperwork, deadlines and processes. These are no longer needed.
Change number 2 – People can hire attorneys to take part in only a portion of the divorce.
Hiring an attorney in Michigan used to mean that the attorney was required to handle all aspects of your case. The change in the law now means people can hire an attorney for only a small fraction of the divorce process.
